Hobos Jacking My Shit.

So I came to Lolla wearing my festive sombrero and gear, and some weirdo hobo (probably methed out) stole my sombrero and cigarettes and everything. I was pissed. The worst part is, when I saw Lady Gaga one of here rainbow fanboys bit me on the arm because he thought I was trying to beat him to barrier. Then end. Seriously, wtf?

The Summer of Suck

Early in 2010, I was an optimistic, cheerful, downright irritatingly happy person. I was determined that summer 2010 was going to be my Summer of Awesome. I had a great job, great friends, and some truly epic vacations planned. The frontrunner on the list of awesome things was attending Lollapalooza. I had been wanting to go for years, every since one of best friends started doing a yearly, week-long vacation in Chicago for the event. Souvenier tickets were purchased, condo reservations were made, and day-counting had begun. Then I got divorced. Faced with the grim reality of moving out on my own with bills piling up and legal paperwork to wade through, I realized I would be unable to attend Lollapalooza. I had to sell my tickets for less than face value just a couple weeks before the festival and drop out of the condo reservations I had made with my friend (who, coincidentally, had just gotten married in July). I felt super lame and really sad about the whole situation. Missing out on my only chance for a vacation that year was the rotten cherry on top of a truly foul, depressing cake. Summer 2010, which had once been intended as the Year of Awesome, magically became the Year of Suck. I am determined to go to Lollapalooza this year to make up for the Summer of Suck. So far, 2011 has already blown 2010 out of the water as far as awesomeness goes, so I think I'm on the right track. Plus, I really really really really really dig the lineup.

MY BABY FIRST LOLLAPALOZA EVER...A FAMILY TRADITION

Lets begin with I'm Colombian, for many this mean "She doesn't have any musical taste, besides Latin music", but for everybody surprise I do, I grow up with U2, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, R.E.M.. just to name few . Since I came to this beautiful city (Chicago), I've been a fan of Lollapaloza and now that I'm a mom I want to share this tradition with my little one, so in 2010 I introduced him to the best musical festival ever, I took him into green day, lady gaga, sound garden concerts and I could see how he felt the music in the same way that I did, only 1 yr old and he enjoyed like everybody else , shaking his head with the beats of the sound and pretending to sing. ...well i think the pictures and videos can tell the story better than me. This is gonna be our family tradition...one more yr at Lollapaloza. Music doesn't have any boundaries , it's just one language .

My Lolla Adventure: The lost Key, The Wet Pants, and the Vomit Fries.

It was 2010, day 2 of Lollapalooza. It was the first time my friends and I were able to drink at Lollapalooza. We spent way more money than we should have on beer. We spent the entire day in a constant buzz. Once the sun set we started drinking a bit more and we ended up in a complete awesome blur of music and dancing. I left the crowd midway into the setlist because I was craving these fries all day. My friend, Edith, stayed back because she didn't want to leave our spots that were really close to the stage, even tho she had to pee really bad. So anyway Vince and I go getmy fries and coke and I'm really excited because I've been starving all day because all of my money went to beer. I sit near the back of the lawn so I can see the stage and enjoy my fries. As soon as I sit down Vince comes up behind me and reaches over to steal one of my fries, but as he reaches down to grab the fry all of his liquor comes up and he vomits all over my fries, that I never got to try. So I'm drunk, hungry, and really sad because I didn't get my fries and we are finally all trying to leave. Edith has been holding in her pee for Green Day's second half of the setlist. She is rushing around looking for a bathroom, but we've already left Lollapalooza by now and no stores let her use the bathroom because you have to be a customer and we didn't have money because we've spent all our money on beer. So we decide that we are just going to get in the car and go home, but the problem is none of us could find the car keys. We retraced our steps for 2 hours looking for this key that we thought we might have dropped. We asked random people if they've seen a key, meanwhile Edith's bladder is on the verge of exploding. We decide to split up and all look for the key individually. Thirty minutes after we split up I empty all of my pockets and find it in my jean's small pocket inside a larger pocket. So I call them to all meet by the car and tell them I found it, but when I get back to the car Edith is crying. I asked what was wrong and she tells me that no one would let her in the bathroom so she ended up peeing on herself. I felt so bad that I had the key all along, but I never told them WHERE I found the key.

LOLLAPALOOZA VETS RETURN TO THE MAIN STAGE

Lollapalooza showed its willingness to take big risks to please fans in 2010. The consequent decision to include both Green Day (who also performed in the 1994 tour) and pop sensation Lady Gaga – a 2007 Lolla veteran – as headliners was deemed a controversial choice by many at the time. But the festival’s gamble paid off, as her performance ultimately won a mountain of praise and a boatload of buzz.

With a lineup that also showcased rockers The Strokes, indie-ensemble – and 2005 Lolla veterans – Arcade Fire, critical darlings The National, and rappers Cypress Hill, 2010’s Lollapalooza was an smoldering supernova of pop, hip-hop and rock acts. Following in the footsteps of fellow 90s rockers Jane’s Addiction, grunge pioneers Soundgarden became the second band to headline three Lollapaloozas (reprising appearances from 1992 and 1996). Perry’s came into its own, garnering attention for its killer lineup and huge crowds that came to catch bleeding-edge beats from artists like Empire of the Sun, Digitalism, and Kidz in the Hall.

Providing energy for hungry fest-goers, Lollapalooza’s food court, christened ChowTown, was tastefully curated by renowned Chicago chef Graham Elliott, putting affordable, local, and deliciously unique flavors of several of the city’s favorite restaurants in fans’ hands.

LADY GAGA MAKES HER RETURN TO LOLLA

Just three years after her performance on one of Lolla’s side stages with her then sidekick Lady Starlight, Lady Gaga rode into Lollapalooza 2010 during the height of her Monster Ball tour as one of the festival’s headliners. She’s come a long way, baby.
