I had no idea that Orbital would be playing at the show in Camden NJ, and they came on as the last group. I already knew who they were being they were one of my favorite electronica groups, but a lot of people didn't. Many people left and they definitely shouldn't have. It was an amazing experience- very surreal. Very fortunate to have gotten to see them live.
Saw Tool for the first time and have seen them 5 or 6 more times since then. Their shows always amaze me :) Never got to see Korn....they cancelled. I always laugh at the 20 year olds at work who get excited to go, then I tell them...oh, I went to Lollapalooza like fifteen years ago....They seem to look at me in a different light....then I realize how old that makes me!!!!!

I was 16, me and my friend drove from tulsa, okla. Got on the front row during Trickys set. Things were calm until Snoop Dogg was announced. Waves of fans rushed to the front and pinned us to the security rail. We were stuck there the next five hours. Snoops set was great, and was followed by Tool. Maynard came out in drag, complete with blonde curly wig. During the chaos of the show,i found a pair of white rimmed sunglasses, which I threw on stage. I was stoked when Maynard picked them up and put them on, and continued performing. My friend caught one of Danny Carreys drum sticks. Prodigy was up next, and rocked the house. Both singers came down to the crowd during the set. Both stood on the security rail and proceeded to lean on and step on both of us. Uncomfortable, yes, fun as hell, you bet your ass! Five hours of getting smashed on the rail, sweating to death, getting hit by random crowd surfers, and I wouldn't trade it for the world. My favorite experience in the 15 years I've been going to concerts.
this was my first concert ever, i was 16 and i went with some friends. it was amazing the music and all the little booths. i thought it was awsome that they were in Corpus Christi, TX. we never got these kind of things here and i knew i had to go. from 11 in the morn to 12 that night. we were so caught up in everthing thing around us and those darn mist tents that we didn't feel the heat of the day on us. lol. i think snoop, prodigy, orbital, and tool were my favs that day. i tell my kids about it still to this day as one of the best concerts that corpus has ever seen. wish to hell that they would come back here again.
Conscious of fans' changing tastes and the exploding popularity of electronica, Lollapalooza 1997 featured an assembly of cutting-edge and popular artists to spotlight the exciting new styles. Festival organizers booked ambient techno pioneers Orbital, Britain’s big beat superstars Prodigy (who’s hit “Smack My Bitch Up” was enjoying trans-Atlantic chart success), and trip-hop pioneer Tricky, among others, to headline beside rock bands like Tool and rap sensation Snoop Doggy Dogg.
The last year before the festival went on hiatus, festival founder Perry Farrell joined forces once again with the William Morris Agency to provide direction in the face of uncertain days ahead for both Lollapalooza and the music industry as a whole. With critics in the press starting to mount and fan attention splintering, Lolla would lay low for the next five years. Temporarily down, but definitely not out.
Due to the brutal murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G. and East Coast-West Coast tensions, Snoop Dogg cancelled his 1997 tour. Instead, he joined the Lollapalooza tour – traveling between all festival stops in a bulletproof van.
